Seattle Aquarium

I spent some time down in Seattle last week and decided to check out the Seattle Aquarium. It’s located right on the water front across from the Pike Place Market, in what appears to be an old dock building. Overall it’s really impressive what they have been able to do with the little space they have. There were staff and volunteers everywhere ready to answer your questions and point out animals of interest. The habitats were great for showcasing every animal, not so huge that you can never see anything and not so small that you feel bad for the animals. The best habitat was for the river otters which looked just like a forest; water fall, giant cedars, and a little pond for foraging. The number of live coral exhibits was also impressive; there were countless brightly coloured tropical corals, anemones, and insanely decorated fish. I was also impressed by their shore birds exhibit which was home to Alcids, Tufted Puffins, Common Murres, Rhinoceros Auklets, and Oyster Catchers. Once again, overall I was impressed; it’s not the same as the Vancouver or the John G Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, but for the size of the place it offers a lot.
